Global Care Quest (GCQ) is a mobile healthcare solution that gives medical staff instant access to a hospital’s IT infrastructure, resources and services. Typically used at the point-of-care (bedside) GCQ gives medical staff access to the most up-to-date patient data available, allowing a diagnosis to be made sooner and with more accuracy, ultimately resulting in a higher quality of patient care. Using the latest wireless and handheld computer technologies, GCQ prides itself in being the most comprehensive mobile healthcare solution of it’s kind. GCQ has achieved this by not only providing medical staff with mobile access to detailed patient data and medical references but by integrating productivity and communication tools that are always on hand. GCQ was designed by doctors over the past 3 years at the Medical Centre of the University of California, Los Angles (UCLA) currently ranked as the fifth best healthcare institution in the USA*.Overseas GCQ is now commercially availble in Australia exclusively from Madisent (www.madisent.com).

Portable

By utilising a handheld device medical staff can access all information at the point-of-care through wireless networks significantly reducing to need to find and manage hard copies of patient records, images and lab results. GCQ has been designed using a thin-client based software technology that gives medical staff a choice when it comes to the selection of a handheld device. GCQ clients exist for the major handheld platforms such as PalmOS and Microsoft Pocket PC. In addition to supporting a range of handheld clients, a desktop client for Microsoft Windows ME/NT/2000/XP computers is available, allowing staff to access the same information from their existing computer workstations.

Secure

GCQ offers a range of measures to ensure that it protects the privacy of patient data (HIPAA compliant).Device registration, password pass-through authentication and intelligent cache purging techniques allow patients and hospital administrators to be reassured that only authorised medical staff can access relevant patient data.

Capable

GCQ has been designed to allow key features to be added and removed so that hospitals can tailor solutions with modules that best suit their requirements.

The following represent the major GCQ modules:

Electronic Patient Record (EPR) module

As the core of GCQ, the EPR module provides mobile access to patient demographics, lab reports, radiology reports and other items from the hospitals patient record systems.

Monitor Acquisition Module

This module allows medical staff to view data from networked patient monitors in real time, observing trends, waveforms and parameters from any GCQ client.

Radiology Information System (RIS) Module

Enables the view and manipulation of all scans gathered through systems such as PACS, including XRays, CTs, PET Scans and MRIs.

Autonote Module

A key time saver, Autonotes creates 70% of a doctor’s daily note for each patient by automatically assembling results, reports and scans.During rounds medical staff can add plans and observations to the Autonote, which is then stored back into the hospitals information system, printed out or accessed via the web. In addition Autonotes can be faxed or emailed to interested parties such as referring GPs and specialists.

Medical Calculators

GCQ clients allow medical staff to use various rules, equations and clinical scoring systems for assessing patients at the point-of-care.

Adaptable

The combination of XML and thin client technology allows for fast integration of new services and procedures into GCQ such as clinical management guidelines, algorithms and protocols. The deployment of these new services is accomplished via an auto-update feature of the clients avoiding a reliance on hospital IT staff to become involved in the upgrade process of each device.

Benefits

The following are the proven benefits achieved using GCQ:

  • Medical staff are saving thirty minutes to one hour per day.
  • Having the latest lab results and imagery at the point-of-care has reduced the medical error rate.
  • Instant mobile access to detailed patient data and medical references allow for diagnosis and treatment decisions to be made sooner and with more accuracy resulting in a better quality of patient care.
  • Electronic recording and transmission of patient plans and recommendations has resulted in better communication with medical staff and referring GPs.
